Simple Tea-Time Fruit Cake

Simple Tea-Time Fruit Cake

Who doesn’t like a cup of tea and a nice sit down? Well, I don’t actually like tea, but whatever, the answer is clearly no one. And what do you want with your warm beverage and sofa? Cake of course! But none of that fancy […]

Homemade Pizza for Weeknights

Homemade Pizza for Weeknights

Pizza is one of everybody’s favourite foods. It can be made with any combination of ingredients, but the classic cheese and tomato are still the goto for most people. There’s a reason the traditional flavour combinations hang around for generations because they work. Although it […]

Pan-Fried Duck Breast with Potato and Port

Pan-Fried Duck Breast with Potato and Port

This week’s recipe is a family favourite in our house. I suppose it’s kind of an amalgamation of our favourite things; a simply pan-fried duck breast for Su, and the fondant potato for me. Why do I prefer the potato to the meat? Well try making these potatoes, and you’ll soon find out, they’re the best. But what do you add to the plate to lubricate your taste buds then? A port and blackberry sauce of course! Duck is famously good with fruity and robust flavours, so this combination is the perfect accompaniment. If you want to roast a whole duck, check out our recipe here.

S’mores Tart

S’mores Tart

I honestly never think of s’mores that much, and didn’t really know about them at all growing up. The UK doesn’t have the best barbecue weather, and although toasted marshmallows were always a family favourite, I don’t think adding chocolate or biscuits ever really crossed […]

Since it is the 1st day of 2018, I just wanted to say thank you to the people that have supported our new blog. Even though we’re small now, we hope to grow in the coming years and really appreciate each and everyone that stops by to take a look. One of the things we’re most grateful for from 2017 is having the most wonderful food destinations on our doorstep now that we live in Singapore. The highlight of 2017 for me was visiting Japan, which has been on top of our list of places to visit for some time now. This post is all about Yushintei, the traditional ryokan (guesthouse) we stayed at in Hakone (1.5 hours on the train from Tokyo) where we had a very special kaiseki dinner and breakfast. Check out our other Japan blog posts.

Pork Rillettes with Fennel and Thyme

Pork Rillettes with Fennel and Thyme

Although it’s extremely simple, and many would argue not at all exciting, rillette and pate are some of my favourite things to have for a starter in a restaurant. Sometimes if you’re going for a more adventurous main course you need to begin with something […]
