Ginger & Kafe is one of the fancier places you can eat at in Chiang Mai. I was on holiday with my mum and it was our first night in Chiang Mai so we wanted to go somewhere that was a little more upmarket by Thailand standards.
Ginger & Kafe has quirky and eclectic decor. Outside was beautifully lit and felt very romantic, even if I was there with my mum! There’s also a shop next door that sells statement pieces that you are unlikely to find anywhere else.
Ginger & Kafe have a nice selection of cocktails, wines, and beers. Mum had the Singapore sling (250 Baht) and I had a Singha (90 Baht).
One of my favourite dishes to get in Thailand is deep-fried whole fish. At Ginger & Kafe we ordered the deep-fried whole sea bass topped with ginger, tamarind, pepper, and cashew nuts (490 Baht). This was just divine and was so meaty, it was endless, you could definitely just share this between the two of you and be very happy and full.
We also ordered the Vietnamese summer rolls with prawn and mango (150 Baht) which were nice enough, but I thought the addition of the mango made them a little too sweet.
We also had a side of crab fried rice (250 Baht) which was tasty but a little too oily, and to be honest we ordered far too much so didn’t really get round to eating this!
A signature dish from Chiang Mai is Khao Soi (160 Baht), a curry noodle dish with chicken. I really liked this as it had boiled and crispy fried noodles that really made the dish; a must if you are in Chiang Mai.
Ginger & Kafe is a unique and quirky place to come for dinner in Chiang Mai, albeit a little pricey for Thai standards. Just order the sea bass and you’ll be more than happy!
